Ford voluntarily recalled 900+ Eco Sport Diesel units to relocate ‘Glow Plug Module’
New Delhi: Ford has recalled a large number of units of the recent sensation, the Eco Sport SUV in connection with a defect which may result in decay of fuel efficiency.
As per the information, Ford’s new Eco Sport diesel version comes with the Glow Plug module positioned under the hood close to the front bumper. The position of the module is in such a way that it possess high risk of getting exposed to moisture. The module should not be exposed to liquids as it would reduce the fuel efficiency in time. Basically, the Glow Plug Module is meant for keeping the combustion chamber warm and thus deals with a vital task for the diesel engines.
Ford has recalled about 972 units of the Eco Sport diesel so far and some more units are yet to be recalled. But the respective defect will not affect the Eco Sport petrol version as well as the 1.5 L Eco Boost powered variant. The Glow Plug Module is crucial to start a diesel engine and without proper functioning of the module, the car may not get start and even if it gets started, we may get huge deficit in the fuel efficiency.
The Glow Plug Module is an external component and thus can be detached and attached whenever needed. Thus Ford has found a solution for the respective defect and it will be performed at all the dealerships all over India. The module will be removed from its current position and will be fixed under the bonnet deeper inside so that there will be no probability of getting wet. Ford claimed that the recall was voluntary as no customer has raised any issue with their Eco Sport so far.
A spokesperson from Ford stated “As part of routine checks, we discovered a potential concern with Eco Sport diesel variants related to the Glow Plug Module which requires relocating the module. We are contacting customers to take their vehicle to Ford dealership to have the work carried out. No accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue and this is a proactive, voluntary recall action to ensure customers safety and satisfaction”.
