LG G Pro 2 Could be Released in March ahead of G3: Expected Launch at MWC 2014

2013 was another solid year for LG, but not one where it gained more of foothold in the general smartphone market or made up a lot of ground versus the two-headed monster of Apple and Samsung. For the New Year, LG is believed to be planning two devices for CES 2014 and MWC 2014 – a fitness band and a smartwatch – but it may also release new flagship-level phones, such as LG G3, which may be launched at MWC in February, as well as the purported LG G Pro2.

Las Vegas: According to a new report from Naver, the LG G Pro2 could have a release date sometime in March, this came from quotes from Daishin Securities analyst John Park, and points to what could also be a launch at MWC 2014. So if LG remains silent at CES 2014, it could make a huge impression at the following month’s MWC expo at Barcelona, where it could potentially launch four devices – the two wearables, LG G3 and finally the LG G Pro2.

The original LG G Pro was a 5.5 inch, 1080p phablet sized phone with high-end specs but little by way of special features. As such, G Pro2 might need more defining elements in it in order to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but for the meantime, very little is known about the device as nothing has been rumoured about its specifications or design. The display size, 5.5 inches, is expected to be retained while improvements are expected under the hood.

As far as LG G3 is concerned, it is rumoured to have a 2560X1440 pixel resolution display, LG’s own octa core processor, 15 megapixel rear camera and possibly a fingerprint scanner as well. If LG doesn’t have their new chipset ready in time, they may opt for a Snapdragon 800 or may be an 805. Last year’s Optimus G Pro runs on a Snapdragon 600 SoC, so any one of those would be a step up. The new LG devices coming this year could also feature some kind of flexible display based on the G Flex hardware. Nothing has been said as yet about the design of G3 as well, so it is a bit early to be really sure about how LG’s 2014 premium smartphone lineup is going to shape up.
