2nd Gen Chevrolet Volt Spotted – More Electric range to beat Honda Accord, Toyota Prius and Ford Fusion and Nissan Leaf
General Motors has been working on the development of the next gen Chevrolet Volt from past few months but the manufacturer has kept the project a secret so far. The first generation Volt did impress potential customers across the world but the sales figures were not up to the expectations and thus it has failed to get sorted among the best selling models. Chevrolet has decided to rectify all the issues that were reported to be responsible for the poor performance of the model and we could expect the second gen Volt to be a significant player for Chevy.
A unit of the upcoming Chevrolet Volt has been spotted while it was being tested on roads. It has been considered as a test mule initially but it seems to be a prototype instead and it reflects a completely revised cosmetic profile when compared with the current gen Chevrolet Volt. The respective prototype was completely covered with heavy camouflage leaving no chance for us to have a glance at the revisions. We could clearly observe that the base structure of the model has been altered slightly in order to give the customer a fresh feel.
The current gen Volt is a hybrid vehicle basically and the upcoming second gen edition will also be a hybrid variant. The demand for hybrid cars is increasing enormously across the globe and the Indian market is no exemption for the thirst. Rival models such as Prius and etc. have been excelling in the market very well and Chevy has failed to catch the momentum. The main reason for the failure of first gen Volt has been stated as the poor range in all electric mode which is just 40 kilometers on a single charge. Chevrolet is expected to increase the capacity of the batteries which will in turn promise more range in electric mode.
There is no information about the engine specifications of the model so far but we could expect the 2nd gen Chevrolet Volt to get powered with a 1.4 litre engine as the main power source but there is also probability for opting a 1.0 litre engine instead. However, nothing is confirmed officially and we must wait for one year or more to find out as Chevrolet has flagged the 2nd gen Volt as a 2016 model.
