Indian Premier League 7th Season 2014: Kings XI Punjab Team Analysis
Kings Eleven Punjab is owned by Preity Zinta, Ness wadia and Oberoi Group. The captain of the team is George Bailey and the coach is Sanjay Bangar. Field coach of the team is R. Sridhar.
Chandigarh: Kings XI Punjab reached the semi final of 2008 IPL Tourney which is its best performance in all IPL seasons. But after that the team could not even cross the league stage and was criticized for this. The team however is planning to change its fortune and for this it has chosen to include the likes of dashing batsman Virendra Sehwag.
There is no dearth of hitters in Kings XI Punjab team. But the team is failing to perform collectively. In the last five seasons, the captains of the team were Yuvraj, Jayewardene and Gilchrist. But they could not lead the team to success. But this time Australia’s T20 team captain George bailey is leading the Punjab team.
Bailey has the experience of leading the Australia team in international cricket and he may play a crucial role in batting in IPL 7. The team also retained David Miller and Vohra. The management spent big money to purchase Johnson (Rs. 6.5 crores), Maxwell (Rs. 6 crores), Bailey (Rs. 3.25 crores), Sehwag (Rs. 3.2 crores) and the team’s success will depend on these players. The team also bought domestic all-rounder Rishi Dhawan for Rs. 3 crores and it would be interesting see how he performs in the tourney.
Kings XI Punjab’s strength is having all-rounders in the team who can win the matches singlehandedly. Maxwell and Sehwag are dangerous batsmen. Michael Johnson is also in wonderful form. If other bowlers also perform well it is not easy to stop the team from winning the matches.
Loosing quick wickets, lack of domestic cricket players and depending hugely on foreign players are the drawbacks in the team. The team also has to correct its fielding.
The team has Sehwag, Pujara, Saha, Balaji, Murali Kartik and Parvinder who player for Team India. Bailey, Johnson, March, Maxwell, David Miller, Henriques and Thisara Perera are the foreign players in the team. It also has domestic cricketers such as Anureet Singh, Rishi Dhawan, Gurukeerat Singh, Karanveer Singh, Mandeep Singh, Akshar Patel, Sandeep Varma, Sivam Varma, Sardul Thakur and Mannan Vohra.
