Samsung Gear Fit Updated To Have Vertical Display
Samsung Gear Fit, the wrist band-like fitness tracker that was launched earlier at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) is a perfectly functioning device except for one factor that it came with a landscape display. This needed a twist of the neck to view. But latest images of the Gear Fit on Samsung’s own Korean site showed it in a vertical display mode. It looks like Samsung had seen the problem and has already checked it.
Taipei: The Gear Fit which is for international sale from April 11 is expected to come with the update or at least with the ability to download the update. With its super AMOLED curved display the Gear Fit could be more than just an activity tracker. It could be used for reading messages, viewing images and also maps. It remains to be seen what Samsung could do with its future updates of the Gear Fit.
The updated UI of the Gear Fit appeared on Samsung’s official store blog. Though the problem of orientation may have been resolved, the narrowness of the screen may pose problems while displaying text in the Latin alphabet, it is learnt. Anyways one will have to wait for its launch along with the Galaxy S5 on April 11 to find out what the difference in display would do.
The Samsung Gear Fit has an amazing super AMOLED curved display that is really clear and attractive. The background clock and colors add to the beautiful design. The heart rate monitor is as fast as the Galaxy S5 or Gear 2 in reading. Same goes for its other fitness capabilities like walking, running, cycling or hiking. The 1.84-inch display gives a resolution of 432×128 pixels. The display can be suited to left or right-handed users and now that it is vertical there is no need to bend one’s neck to view the band.
It is IP67 rated to be dust and water resistant. It is very light on the wrist despite the brilliant screen. It measures 23.4×57.4×11.95 mm and weighs just 27g. There is a 210 mAh battery on board and this will give 3-4 days of use, according to Samsung.
