AAP Singing Tune Of Third Front

The latest entrant in the bandwagon favoring Third Front is Aam Aadmi Party of Arvind Kejriwal.

New Delhi: The fever of ’third front’ catching all the political parties without any difference. The third front takes birth before general elections and ends its life after the respective government in place. The present general elections under process are also no exception.

The tune of third front is played by leaders (mainly regional players) like Mulayam, Mayawati, Mamata, Jayalalithaa. The newborn TRS also started the tune of Third Front.

The latest to join the bandwagon singing this Third Front tune is none other than the Aam Aadmi Party of Arvind Kejriwal. The projected itself as one of the big contenders in the present elections.

With the passage of time and after completion of 8 phases of voting, the political scenario in the country has totally changed. At present, there are only two major alliances fighting the elections – one the NDA alliance and the other opposing NDA.

The 2nd group consists of all other political parties. The members of the group mention that their sole objective is ‘to stop BJP from coming to power’. Each of the party leaders is using the concept of Third Front in different ways.

The concept of ‘third front’ is very interesting. The rivals like Mamata & communists (in West Bengal) are talking of third front. The constituents of present UPA (like Nationalist Congress Party of Sharad Pawar) are also talking of this novel concept. UP leaders like Mulayam & Mayawati talk about Third Front.

Congress itself has also talked about the concept and mentioned on some occasions that it is ready to ensure third front government formation, if the required majority for the UPA is not available post poll.

All the parties are keeping their options open regarding the ‘third front’. They all say that they are interested to work together under the name of third front and their sole objective is to stop BJP from coming to power. The common statements also mention ‘that the support to third front would be issue based’.

As evidenced by the Indian polity, the third front concept did not work well in the past. The congress supported national front (during 1998 to 1991) gave 2 prime ministers to the country offer less stable government. Despite the past record, the Indian political parties are once again talking of third front.
