SEBI Putting Cold Water On Congress Hope Priyanka Gandhi
The last hope of the congress for its revival pointed at Priyanka Gandhi but the latest developments in the recent elections indicate her inability to help congress’ revival.
New Delhi: The general elections in May 2014 confirmed that the congress party is in urgent need of some magic leader who can help its revival from its dismal party. The party wants some ‘Abra Ka Dabra’ and its position is moving from worse to worst.
With the congress leaders unable to find a suitable leader to guide them for future elections, the party is eyeing big hopes on Priyanka Gandhi. Her campaign in UP ensured victory of 2 MP seats for congress (incidentally those seats pertain to her mother Sonia Gandhi & brother Rahul Gandhi). These two are the only seats won by the congress party in the largest state (contributing 80 MP seats in a house of 545 members).
During the election campaign and before & after as well there were many reports about the many scams involving the son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi i.e., Robert Vadhra. The land dealings involving Robert Vadhra and DLF with the support of the then Haryana government invited criticism from many sections of media and politics as well.
Once the new BJP government took position at Delhi, the congress party intensified its efforts to bring Priyanka to lead the congress party. There were many views expressed by senior congress leaders advising Sonia to bring Priyanka as the party coordinator (even replacing Rahul Gandhi who is the present Vice President of the party and No.2 in the party after Sonia Gandhi).
Priyanka is considered as one of the strongest leaders of the senior most political party of our country. Her look, appearance & mannerisms remind her grandmother Indira Gandhi and this is definitely a plus point for her political position.
Though Priyanka denied reports of her taking active part in Congress politics, many leaders were hoping a helping hand from Priyanka. The recent act of SEBI banning DLF from market operations came as a serious setback for Priyanka’s political career. The stock market regulator SEBI took serious objections for the manner in which the transactions between DLF & Robert Vadhra took place.
This act is definitely a stumbling block for Priyanka’s political career as her husband Robert Vadhra is directly involved in the mentioned land transactions (scams). In view of the same, now the congress is most likely to get denial from Priyanka’s support.
As it is, BJP is once again able to win the recent state elections in the state of Maharashtra & Haryana. Congress is still struggling with its age-old scams hit leadership for its survival.
