Three Smart Phones That Give Great Performance but Don’t Cost the Moon
They are the cheapest smart phones with none of the ‘advanced features’ of an Apple or Samsung product. But they offer a whopping number of features for one third the price. Batteries have to be charged frequently. But it offers seven hours of streaming video. The top-end smart phones cost anywhere near $650.
New York: If one considers what one wants to do with one’s phone and what features one would use frequently over the next two years, there are at least three smart phones for which you need not loot a bank.
ZTE Nubia 5S Mini (Android $280)
The Nubia is a slim, light device with a 4.7-inch screen, identical to the iPhone 6. It is comfortable to hold. It sports a screen resolution of 1280x720p which is much less than the top-end models. It has a 5 MP camera selfie camera in the front which is better than a typical smart phone. The 13 MP rear camera is common. It comes with 4G connectivity and 16 GB storage.
Motorola MotoG (Android $180)
Motorola has a $129 smart phone, the Moto E. But for a $50 more one can a smart phone with a better camera, in the Moto G. The latest model of Moto G sports a 5-inch screen that is covered with Corning Glass that is common among much costlier phones. It has an 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front camera.
It lacks the latest 4G LTE connectivity but makes it up with 3G which of course is slower. Last year’s model of Moto G has LTE connectivity but its display is only 4.5 inches and it has a bad camera resolution. The present Moto G starts at 8GB storage capacity.
Microsoft Lumia 635 (Windows, $179)
The Lumia 635 sports a 4.5-inch screen and is not as slim as its top-end sisters, the Icon and the 1520. But it’s better than the Lumia 530 at $79. The latter is bulky and crude to handle with a much smaller screen. It is better to get the 635, especially because some carriers and retailers are offering discounts and lowering its price close to the 530.
Lumia 635 has a 5 MP rear camera only. It does not sport a front camera. The built-in storage is just eight GB. Its advantage is 4G connectivity.
