Adoor Gopalkrishnan Honored with Bishwaratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika International Solidarity award
30.3.2015: Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan is honored with Bishwaratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika International Solidarity Award for the year 2015. The award was presented by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in Guwahati. Gopalakrishnan is one of the finest film makers from Kerala. His first movie as a director was swayamvaram in 1972. He won 16 national awards and 17 state awards for his contribution to cinema. He is also honored with Padma Shri, Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke awards.
Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award Presented to Balbir Singh senior
30.3.2015: Veteran hockey player Balbir Singh senior is honored with Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement award. The award carried Rs. 30 lakh and a trophy. Balbir Singh senior represented India in Olympic Games three times in 1948, 1952 and 1956. Indian team won gold medals all the three times. He also served as captain to Indian hockey team at Melbourne Olympics.
Bharat Ratna Conferred on Madan Mohan Malviya Posthumously
30.3.2015: Educationist and freedom fighter Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya is presented with the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna posthumously. On March 30th, Malaviya’s family members were presented with the award at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Pandit Malaviya was chosen for this honor for his outstanding service in the field of education and for his work in freedom struggle. Malaviya was born on 25th December in Allahabad. Banaras Hindu University was originated by him.
Stephen Hawking’s Name to be Turned into a Brand
30.3.2015: Physicist Stephen Hawking applied to get his name trademarked. Other celebrities who turned their names into brands are Davik Beckham and JK Rowling. Computer games, greeting cards, health care and powered wheelchairs will be covered under his trademark. He can set up a foundation under his brand name for promoting physics and so on. The Physicist was paralyzed due to motor neurone disease.
Hit and Run Case: I was behind the Wheels Says Salman Khan’s Driver Ashok Singh
30.3.2015: I was behind the wheels at the time of accident, told the driver of Salman Khan to court yesterday. In an interesting turn of events, the driver informed to the court that he lost control of the vehicle due to tyre burst. The incident happened on 28th September, 2002 in which one person was killed and few others were injured.
