Om Prakash Rawat is the New Election Commissioner

13.8.2015: Law ministry said in a statement that Om Prakash Rawat is appointed as the new election commissioner and will take charge soon. Rawat is a former Madhya Pradesh cadre IAs officer. He was serving as a secretary at center. Born on December 2, 1953 he retired from government service in 2014. He now will have around three year tenure as an election commissioner. An Election commissioner usually has tenure of six years of till they attain the age of 65 years. This appointment has filled all the three member poll body.

Javid Zarid, Iran Foreign Minister on Visit to India

13.8.2015: For the first time, a key minister of Iran is visiting India after signing the historic nuclear programme with western countries. Iran foreign minister Javad Zarif is on a visit to India and will meet Narendra Modi, prime minister of India and Sushma Swaraj, Indian foreign minister.

Hero Cycles Founder Chairman Passed away

13.8.2015: Eighty Six years old founder chairman of Hero Cycles is no more. Known as father of Indian cycle industry, he set up Hero cycles in 1956. The capacity of the unit then was 25 cycles a day and it is now producing 19,000 cycles every day. Hero cycles also listed in Guinness Books of World Records as largest bicycle manufacturer in 1986.

International Left Handers Day is on 13th August

13.8.2015: International Lefthanders Day is celebrated on 13th August of every year. It was first observed in the year 1976. It is observed to create awareness of problems and inconveniences faced by left handers in predominantly right handed world.

Mumbai High Court Lifts Ban of Maggi Noodle

13.8.2015: Mumbai high court temporarily lifted ban on Nestle Maggi instant noodles. The court also ordered to retest five sample of each variant of Maggi noodles and submit reports within six weeks. The tests will be held in three laboratories in Hyderabad, Jaipur and Punjab. If lead contents are below permissible limit, Nestle can restart selling their manufacturing and selling Maggi noodles.
