CMAT is not compulsory for B- Schools
Management colleges and B- Schools need not compulsorily adopt CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) for selecting the candidates to their colleges for MBA Course. AICTE do not any authority to issue regulations as well as notifications regarding CMAT.
Delhi :As per the order of Delhi High court, Management colleges and B- Schools need not compulsorily adopt CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) for selecting the candidates to their colleges for MBA Course. Justice Manmohan and Justice NV Ramana of Delhi High court has given the Judgement after hearing the appeal aligned Single bench order by FAMUEI (Federation of Association of Management of Unaided Professional Educational Institutions in India). Earlier in most of the B-Schools it is compulsory to write the CMAT for the admission in the colleges.
Earlier AICTE conducts the CMAT examination. AICTE is a statutory body and a national level council for technical education. This council conducts the examination under the Department of Higher education, Ministry of human Resource Development. Now AICTE do not have any right to conduct the CMAT examination as per the Delhi High court order. Judgement also stated that, as CMAT is not under the control of AICTE. So, MBA education should not be considered as technical education.
CMAT examination is an optional for the state Government run universities or other colleges for allotting the seats to eligible candidates for the MBA course as per Single bench. But this was objected by Plaintiff Romy Chacko by stating that MBA education does not come under technical education as per the Supreme Court rule. So, for MBA process and admission should not be under the control of AICTE.
Bench do not considered the arguments of Mr.Romy and stated that AICTE do not any authority to issue regulations as well as notifications regarding CMAT.
