Apple starts cheating its customers with the Rs 5,000 buyback offer for iPhone 4S
Apple cashed in heavily when it launched the buyback scheme for iPhone 4 last year and its sales increased by over 400 percent which was a pretty big number for a device which was already outdated. Now the company has started a similar offer for the iPhone 4S under which it will be offering a discount of Rs 5,000 on the iPhone 4S 8GB. The smartphone costs Rs 31,900 currently and will set you back by Rs 26,900 if you exchange your old smartphone.
New Delhi: Such schemes have been good crowd-puller for the company in the past and during the last such scheme, the distributors ran dry of stock due to overfull demand as the sales tripled just in the first 5 days of the scheme.
Though the scheme is lauded by many, there are still many others who are raising their eyebrows about the offer as the company had valued old smartphones at 28% better than the current discount value. Buyback offers by smartphone manufacturers in India have always been a success and off late this is becoming a new mantra for instant sales booster. Apple does not try this in its homeland but the Indian market is too big for the company to leave aside.
If you do a simple maths, any smartphone you own which you bought for above Rs 10,000 would have its current market value above Rs 5,000, let alone the ones which cost a lot more. So in a way you’d be suffering a loss if you exchange your old smartphone for a new iPhond 4S. Moreover, you can easily get the iPhone 4S 8GB from offline as well as online stores for about Rs 27,000-28,000 so somewhere it does not really make sense that you give away your old smartphone for a price which is actually the real market price.
What I suggest is that just in case you are a fan of the iPhone and want to go in for the iPhone 4S, just sell your old smartphone in the second hand devices market and buy an iPhone 4S for about Rs 28,000. This way you’ll send up saving yourself a nice amount of money which I am pretty sure can be used elsewhere in a better manner.
