LG G Pro 2 Phablet Likely to Be Unveiled at MWC 2014
LG’s latest, G Pro 2 phablet is expected to be out at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWB). Though the specifications have not yet been revealed, rumors have it that the new device is the company’s first with fingerprint scanning technology. It is expected to be modeled with the other standard features like a 6-inch full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 3 GB RAM, Android 4.4 Kitkat and LTE Advanced.
Washington: The successor of LG G Pro will challenge Samsung Galaxy Note 3, HTC One Max and Sony Xperia One Ultra. Phablets have become a necessity in the company’s product line. According to research firm IDC phablets accounted for 21 per cent of smart phones shipment in Q3 2013, up by 3 per cent in Q3 2012.
Korea-based ET News had earlier reported that LG is coming with a whole range of 2014 handsets with fingerprint scanning technology. It has chosen fingerprint scanning technology over iris tracking technology due to factors like premature technology and dark rooms. The LG G Pro 2 will have security hardware. LG is also expected to come out with G3 in May, which is likely to have an octa-processor and 16-megapixel rear camera and of course fingerprint scanning technology.
Apple iPhone 5S was the first to popularize the fingerprint scanner technology. With a fingerprint scanner the user does not have to enter a security code manually. For manufacturers this is an extra point to score which chance LG does not want to miss. The question is where the fingerprint scanner will be placed, at the front or back of the set.
Just as predicted by IDC last November 5 to 7 inch phablets and smart phones have become the range among smart phone users. There has been a growth of 18 per cent last year in this sector, IDC said. In fact Apple is lagging behind by not entering the 5 inch plus market. In the wake of customers looking for extra screen, Samsung, Huawei, HTC , LG and even Nokia are all going for large screen market. IDC numbers indicate that customer demand is there despite the fact that mainstream media and Apple have disregarded it.
