India beat Pakistan by 7 Wickets in T20 World Cup 2014: Today’s Matches in T20 World Cup
India started its T20 World Cup campaign with a victory against Pakistan. The record of India not beaten by Pakistan in World Cup matches in intact. This is the fifth encounter of both the teams in World cup matches and India won all the five matches. But the match was everything but thrilling. India showed its authority since the beginning of the match.
Mirpur: India won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first. With combined effort, the team could restrict Pakistan to only 130 runs. India successfully chased the target by losing 3 wickets while there were 9 balls still left.
Sikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma gave a good start to the team. Dhawan scored 30 runs in 28 balls with five fours and Rohit Sharma scored 24 in 21 balls with one four and two sizes. Virat Kohli remained not out on 36. He played 32 balls and there were four fours and one six in his score. Suresh Raina was 35 not out with four fours and one six. Man of the match was Mishra who claimed two wickets.
Team India’s worrying factor before T20 world cup was the openers. But in this match Dhawan and Rohit played well. Since the target is small both played slowly in the beginning and later played big shots. Openers were sent to pavilion after their partnership was 50 runs for the first wicket. Yuvraj was also out without making any score and India seemed to be in trouble with only 65 runs on board by losing 3 wickets.
Kohli and Raina did not take any pressure and faced Pakistan bowlers with confidence. India needed 7 runs in 11 balls and Raina hit a six and one run in the next ball.
Pakistan’s opener Kamran Akmal was out for only 8 runs which was the first blow to the team. Another opener Ahmad played slowly but was out in Mishra’s bowling when he was on 22 runs. Umar Akmal was the top scorer for Pakistan. He scored 33 in 30 balls with two fours. At the end of the match Shoaib Malik made 18 runs and Mansood 21 runs. Amit Mishra claimed two wickets. Jadeja, Shami and Bhuvneshwar took one wicket each.
South Africa will take on Sri Lanka today and the match begins at 3.00 pm IST. In another match England will meet New Zealand and the match will begin at 7.00 pm IST. These matches will be telecasted in Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 3 channels respectively.
