Spied: 2014 Yamaha FZ-16 spotted - Competes with Hero Karizma ZMR, Honda CBR and Bajaj Pulsar
Yamaha had a satisfactory track record with the FZ series motor bikes in the Indian market and there is no doubt in saying that FZ is the hot favorite of Indian youth. This may be the reason for the manufacturer to not launch any facelift or upgrade to the model from a long time. As we know that Indian market is one of the most emerging markets in world and it is also high competitive. So Yamaha need to launch a refreshed version of FZ in order to keep the momentum going. Most probably, we are going to get those upgrades by the end of this year.
Few limited edition variants of the FZ-S with remarkable cosmetic changes were launched earlier but Yamaha has not revealed any upgraded edition of both FZ-S and FZ-16 so far. The 2014 edition of the FZ-S was displayed at this year’s Delhi Auto Expo in the month of February but Yamaha has not confirmed when the model is going to reach market actually. To the surprise of all, a test mule of the upcoming edition of the FZ-16 has been spotted recently and the respective unit was not at all having any camouflage on its body.
The 2014 FZ-S is going to have a visor and new body decals which are absent in the current gen model. The respective concept displayed at the Auto Expo was having a set of fenders beneath the fuel tank. Those fenders were not seen on the current gen FZ-S and they also consists of air intakes. The larger fuel tank continues to be offered with the 2014 FZ-S and FZ-16 also. The rear end of the model has been revised remarkably along with an attractive combination for the exhaust system. The current gen variant was having a single seat whereas the upcoming edition will have split seat for the first time.
The rear wheel gets a brand new tyre hugger and a new tail light with license plate enclosure. Power comes from the same 153 CC air cooled engine that is capable of generating around 14 PS power at the peak along with 13.6 Nm of torque. The same engine can be expected to power the FZ-16 also and both FZ-S and FZ-16 are going to get mated with a 5 speed gear box as standard. There is no information about the price of the model so far but we can expect the 2014 FZ-16 to get priced a bit costlier than the current gen variant.
