Wii Mini to be launched by Nintendo in Canada before Christmas
Ottawa: Nintendo is going to launch mini version of Wii console before Christmas. The console will only be available in Canada. It will be available in Canada for purchase from 7th December, 2012. The price of the console is expected to be C$99.99 (62).
Wii Console which is expected to be released in Canada on 7th December, 2012 is smaller than the original Wii console. It will not support any internet connectivity and can be used only for playing Wii games. It will not be possible to play the earlier GameCube games on this console. The console will be available in black color having a red border.
Nintendo has not informed anything about when the new small Wii console will be made available in other countries. It has not also given any reason why only Canada is chosen for launching the console.
Editor of Games industry News Site MCV, Michael French commented that choosing only Canada for smaller version of Wii console launch may be because Nintendo want to see the demand the console will have. It can also be because WII U is still in its manufacturing stage and the company wants to make some money with the launch of smaller version of Wii before Christmas.
Nintendo’s Vice President and general manager for Canada Ron Bertram said Wii Mini that will be launched for a mini price will be a great fun and a great gift that can be given for the holiday season.
Wii U console registered a sale of nearly 400,000 units in United States in the seven days since its launch. Wii U was launched for the first time six years back. At that time 600,000 units were sold in the first eight days. Commenting about this Nintendo’s President for America said this does not reflect the popularity of the device as there are some issues with the stocks that affected the sales. Meanwhile there are mixed response for the Wii U. Few features promised by Nintendo are found to be not present in the console and some users are expressing their unhappiness over this.
