Sony May Launch Sirius Smartphone, Castor Tablets at MWC 2014
Sony, pioneers in electronics including smartphones, TVs and playstations will soon be launching its proposed smartphone called Sirius and a tablet codenamed Castor at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC), according to sources from @evleaks.
Taipei: Though much was not revealed on the specifications side, Sirius, Sony’s Xperia Z2 smart phone will have a 5.2-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974AB (800 series) chipset and will probably head to US network carrier Verizon after its launch. As for Sony’s Castor it is expected to be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974AB processor, 4G LTE support (optional) and Wi-Fi. The Xperia Z tablet is an upgrade from 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro seen inside its predecessor.
However, Sony’s New Year’s Eve notification belies these hopes as it has displayed its Xperia Z1 model that was launched in September 2013 as its flagship model this year at CES. It is expected that it might wait for the Xperia Z1 model to complete its one year cycle to launch its new one.
Few more specifications of Sirius were given by a slightly unreliable source like QHD 2560x1440p display, 3GB of RAM, 20.7MP rear camera G lens, Android 4.4 KitKat and a 3,500mAh battery. The attractions however would be out only at MWC scheduled from February 24 to 27.
Sony Xperia ZAndroid smartphone that was announced in January 2013 features 3G, 5.0″ TFT capacitive touchscreen, 13.1 MP camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. So the Sirius version might expect to have all these features and more. Sony’s world wide customer base is surely not going to miss these new devices. The prices of these though have not been mentioned.
The reviews for Xperia Z Android smartphone had not been that welcome. Hopefully Sony has improvised on its Sirius and Castor versions. Sony has never let down its customers in the tough competitive market of smartphones and tablets. With newer and better technological advances coming in by the day one can expect the Japanese giant to soar up to keep with the times. Sky is the limit for Sony and it is sure to keep going in the new year as well.
