85% Growth in Launching of New Mobiles in Indian Market in 2013

New mobile phones are launched in Indian mobile market regularly. Number of new launched in the market are increasing every year. Apart from national brands, international brand are also launched in India.

Mumbai: Mobile phones priced from Rs. 2000 are made available in the market. Mobiles that come with 3G and 4G support are available in India. Many customers are changing their mobile phones regularly. Most companies are offering their high priced mobile phones for under EMI schemes. Special offers are introduced for special festivals and celebrations.

Comparing to 2012, number of new mobile phone launches in 2013 were increased by 85%. Interesting features of the launches were large screens, big storage, HD screen and others. 957 models from 68 brands were launched in Indian market in 2012, 515 models were launched. Mobile phones from Intex, Karbonn and Lava flooded the market. Intex launched 65 models, Karbonn launched 65 models, Lava and Xolo launched 63, Micromax came up with 59 models, Videocon introduced 36 models in the market, Samsung introduced 33 models and Spice launched 33 models.

On the other hand, it was estimated that there is great demand for tablets in Indian market than for mobile phones but the situation is completely different now. Tablets are not as popular as expected as mobile phones are launched with several features. In 2013, 61 brands launched 194 models in India. Among these, 50 brands are domestic brands and 11 are global brands.

Affordable tablet market was once led by domestic brands such as Micromax and Lava but these are now facing competition from multi-national brands. International brands such as Dell, HP and others are ready to offer products at competitive prices. These companies are trying to grab the mass market share in India. Presently affordable tablets have 80% share in the tablet market. As per market analyzers, popular brands are coming up with good quality products for affordable prices to attract the customers. The prices of these products are expected to come down in the future. Dell already launched three tablets in the price range of Rs. 10,990 to Rs. 26,499. HP is also likely to release its slate tablet in February which is likely to be priced Rs. 20,000.
