7 Wicket Victory for India over Defending Champion West Indies in T20 World Cup 2014
India defeated West Indies in their second match in T20 World Cup 2014. This is the second consecutive victory for Team India and is special also because they won over defending champion. Amit Mishra is announced the Man of the Match.
Mirpur: Team India defeated defending champion West Indies in the Super-10 match that is player here today. The match was won by Team India by seven wickets. The team chased the target of 130 runs easily by losing only three wickets. There were still two balls left to be played.
There were of course few tense moments in the match. Opener Dhawan returned to the pavilion without scoring a single run. Another opener Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scored half centuries and played crucial roles in the victory of the team. India also defeated its arch rival Pakistan in the first match in T20 World Cup 2014.
Team India won the toss and decided to field first. West Indies lost seven wickets and set that target of 130 runs for India. Windies openers Smith and Chirs Gayle tried to save their wickets and attacked only bad deliveries. In this process, Smith was caught by Ashwin when he was on 11 runs. Chris Gayle looked dangerous but was run out trying for an unnecessary run.
Later Samuel and Simmons batted well and scored 18 and 27 runs respectively. Windies scored 129 runs in the prescribed overs. Jadeja claimed three wickets and Amit Mishra claimed two.
This is the second consecutive victory for team India in T20 world cup 2014. Opener Rohit Sharma remained not out on 62 runs. Another young player Virat Kohli scored 54 runs. Both these batsmen added 106 runs partnership to the second wicket. Yuvraj who failed in the first match against Pakistan disappointed in this match also.
India played with the same team that won the first match. There were few changes in the West Indies team. India won the toss and as expected took to bowl first. West Indies scored maximum runs in the final over which fetched them 21 runs. Otherwise it seemed that West Indies will end their innings by scoring below hundred runs. Indian fielders dropped the catches and gave life to Gayle a couple of times.
